Botswana & Namibia Luxury Holidays

From the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta, this is Africa at its most dramatic.

From the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta, Botswana is Africa at its most dramatic. The delta - a placid wilderness of lagoons, grassland and flooded plains - is home to huge numbers of birds and animals, including the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. Stay in luxury at one of the lodges in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, where 4WD vehicles, motorboats and dug-out canoes bring the opportunity to enjoy up-close-and-personal wildlife encounters. For a more back-to-nature experience, continue on to Makgadikgadi National Park in the Kalahari, or the Chobe National Park with its hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds, buffalos, big cats and elephants. In Namibia massive dunes flank the shoreline, gemsbok and ostrich roam the rocky plains. Relax on Swakopmund's beaches or venture north to the untrammelled Skeleton Coast - one of the most atmospheric places on earth. Damaraland yields pre-historic rock engravings and petrified forests, whilst further south lies the one hundred mile long Fish River Canyon. World-class Etosha National Park hosts a multitude of mammals and birdlife in its woodlands, grasslands and salt pans. Travel by coach, ride aboard the luxurious Desert Express train or explore by self-drive car. Note that payment for petrol is in cash only and that there are few service stations. Roads, however, are generally in good condition, but use caution if you stray onto smaller tracks.

BOTSWANA Okavango Delta – The largest inland delta in the world, its seasonal lagoons and waterways are teeming with wildlife. Chobe National Park – Explore the huge wildlife-rich reserve, see the vast herds of elephant and a wide variety of birdlife. Makgadikgadi Pans – Botswana’s salt pans is a landscape like no other, bare for most of the year, the landscape comes alive with the rains attracting millions of water birds. Mokoro trips – Shallow dugout canoes are one of the best ways to see the wildlife in the deltas and lagoons, enabling you to see the animals from a completely new perspective. NAMIBIA Sossusvlei Dunes – Visit and climb some of the world’s highest sand dunes in the magnificent Namib dune fields within the oldest desert in the world. Skeleton Coast – A desert coastline named after the treacherous nature of the coast, which was the graveyard for countless ships during the sailing era. Now the wrecks are best viewed from a flying safari over the coastline as well as giving guests the opportunity to see this unique environment from the air. Damaraland rock art and fossils – Twyfelfontein is home to one of the most extensive galleries of rock art in Africa. Also in the area is the Aba-Huab Petrified Forest, which is a collection of fossilised trees believed to be over 250 million years old. Wildlife – Namibia’s unique landscape has meant that animals have had to adapt to survive and many exceptional species can be found throughout the country such as desert-adapted elephant, rhino, lion and giraffe.
