Slowing the pace
on safari

Excitement and safari should always belong in the same sentence, yet for some, the beauty of escape comes with slowing down - appreciating the efforts behind such extraordinary experiences.

To leisurely experience far-flung destinations is to immerse yourself in another world entirely – in this case, one often seen only on screen. Serial safari-goers understand the awe that accompanies breaking the fourth wall of a real-life wildlife documentary (and with their ever-increasing popularity, an appreciation of the initiatives allowing us to explore in exclusivity). Centred on going at your own pace, here is a relaxed roam through the length and breadth of Kenya to witness the conservation success stories lived out each day. See Craig the big tusker saunter below Mount Kilimanjaro; learn how conservation crosses borders with the Big Life Foundation; and track once near-extinct species at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. This itinerary proves the magic we see on screen is by no means fabricated

Itinerary
highlights

- Head towards Amboseli National Park to meet members of the Big Life Foundation; join them on a walking safari, showcasing their successful protection of rhinos and big tusker.

- See first-hand the tracking techniques used across the Kimana wildlife corridor with a tracker dog demonstration, meeting the canines keeping the area free from poaching.

- Visit the Mara Elephant Project and Reteti Elephant Sanctuary to see how these gentle giants are protected, rescued and rehabilitated across both the Maasai Mara and northern Kenya.

- Take to the skies on a scenic helicopter adventure, exploring the southern Sugata Valley; soar over volcanoes, stop to swim in natural springs and enjoy coffee beside Mount Silali.

- Spend time with the experts in animal monitoring, learning how technology is used to track and identify the likes of lions and rhinos in immersive conservation experiences in Loisaba.

- Pass an afternoon in the company of the Samburu tribe, delighting in traditional dancing and beadwork on a short sojourn to
the Samburu village.

- Awake before dawn to soar into the sunrise on a hot air balloon adventure, with a champagne breakfast to follow.

- Spend a night sleeping out under clear skies in Loisaba, with only stars glittering overhead.
