Zimbabwe – Botswana – Madagascar

Exploring special places
with your special people

They say the best things are even better shared, and when it comes to off-the-beaten-track locations, memorable wildlife encounters and luxuriously unique lodgings, nothing rings truer.

Tempting the whole family from teens to elders, a duo of camps kicks the trip off in two of the most wild and wonderful places in Africa. Along the banks of the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe and beside the wetlands of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, exclusive safaris by land or water and scenic helicopter flights show off these landscapes in complete privacy. And with both lodges a part of the Great Plains Conservation group, there are opportunities to see the important work being done in these parts too.

Moving between locations comes easy with private jets, seamless transfers and no waiting around. So, when landing on the shores of Madagascar, the adoration for nature is continued bright eyed and bushy tailed. More than just pretty beaches, days here are spent with the likes of lemur trekking and turtle protection, between lounging by the pool and coming together to dine in all-villa seclusion.

Where you’ll be going

Get to know where you’ll be exploring across Zimbabwe, Botswana and Madagascar, from epic waterfalls to the grandest deltas.

  • Aerial view of Victoria Falls and nearby bridge
    Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Locally known as the ‘smoke that thunders’, the falls needs no introduction; but what makes this seventh wonder of the world so great, is the different ways you can approach it. With access provided from Zimbabwe and Zambia, the bonus in Zimbabwe is the better visibility of the falls, for the ultimate photographer’s dream shot.

    Stay at: Mpala Jena
  • An aerial view of a winding river
    Okavango Delta, Botswana

The largest inland delta in the world, it’s all about experiencing nature from different perspectives here. A mokoro canoe gets visitors down to river level; the other side of the coin is getting a sense of the grandness of the delta by taking to the air.

    Stay at: Selinda Camp
  • Baobabs trees lining dirt road in Madagascar on cloudy day
    Nosy Anko, Madagascar

Unspoilt and uncrowded, Madagascar is the land of the ‘blue safari’ – where snorkelling, diving and sailing in the warm turquoise waters is only paused for a bit of lemur spotting.

    Stay at: Miavana

Extraordinary
experiences

    • Experience the ‘flight of angels’ first hand

Described so fondly by David Livingstone, see Victoria Falls in a way that the explorer could have only dreamed of by taking to the skies in a helicopter. Soaring over ‘the smoke that thunders’ on a 25-minute flight, the sheer greatness of the falls is put into a whole new perspective.

    • An authentic Zambezi dhow cruise

As the sun dips below the horizon, drift languidly down the Zambezi aboard a dhow boat specially procured from Zanzibar – sundowner in hand. This is one of the best times of day to see elephants come down to the water’s edge to drink and hippos wallowing.

    • Spot Botswana’s famous faces

As the flood waters bring life to the Okavango Delta, so comes the opportunity to see a spectrum of wildlife in a myriad of habitats. With a private guide alongside, head out by foot, jeep or on the water to make the most of exclusive access to the whole of Selinda Reserve.

    • Search for lemurs in Madagascar’s forests

Home to some of the world’s most unique species, Madagascar’s wilderness reveals residents that are found nowhere else on earth. Meet the local population of Crowned lemurs that share their island with Miavana and learn about the conservation efforts in place to help them keep thriving in this remote corner of the world.

    • An authentic canoe tour of Madagascar’s mangroves

A habitat rich in both wildlife and charm, early morning or dusk are the best times to gently cruise these calm waters. Kayaks, surf skis or paddleboards are a good go-to to get around, but an authentic Madagascan canoe provides a cultural experience not easily forgotten.

    • Search for sea turtles

Miavana is one of the lucky few places in the world where multiple species of turtles come to lay their eggs. Joining a member of the Conservation Team, wander across the sands either in search of nesting mothers or hatching babies making their way back to the ocean.
