The American glitterati’s ski town of choice, expect to find some of the most glamourous and serious slope-skimmers taking advantage of the surprisingly quiet slopes here.
The name on the lips of everyone who is anyone during ski season, this ex-silver mining town is best known for putting on some of America’s best après-ski. Brimming with jazz clubs, hip bars and nightclubs, Aspen is a glamorous hub spruced to perfection, where you can go from an invigorating clear morning run through snow-dusted trees to a euphoria-inducing afternoon concert seamlessly.
Aspen’s ski area is spread over four mountains (Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass), each with their own character. There are plenty of steep runs through the trees on Aspen Highlands and the Highlands Bowl, which are reached by a snowcat ride and a hike. There is also steep terrain in the Hanging Valley area of Snowmass and Aspen Mountain has challenging black runs. Snowmass is best for intermediates, whilst Buttermilk Mountain is aimed at beginners with nursery slopes and long, easy runs.
