INTERMEDIATES - POWDER SKIING - WINTER ACTIVITIES

A historic silver mining town in Utah where vehicle license plates claim ‘The Greatest Snow on Earth’, Park City is brimming with western style and ambience.

Main Street offers diverse dining, lively bars (including No Name Saloon) and enticing shops and galleries housed within a colourful mix of wood clad and red brick former saloons and boarding houses. A superb array of non-skiing activities range from bobsled rides at Utah Olympic Park to a more sedate alpine roller coaster, tubing and mini snowmobiles, dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowshoe tours and hot air balloon rides. Shopping at the Tanger Outlet Mall and whiskey tasting and tours at the High West Distillery on Main Street offer great alternatives

Time your visit with the Sundance Film Festival - originally founded by Robert Redford and held every January. Catch a movie or two and soak up the atmosphere as well as enjoying the near empty slopes during this period

The skiing

The largest ski area in the USA caters for all abilities thanks to the Quicksilver gondola that links Canyons with the Park City ski area. Plentiful single and double blue groomers contribute to the statistic of 48% intermediate terrain, including tree-lined cruisers as well as exhilarating ridge runs with spectacular high desert views. Beginners take the Red Pine gondola to share the scenery and learn on gentle greens with magic carpets, while experts head high for gladed areas, moguls and rugged black diamond runs; some of the best advanced terrain is found at the top of the 9990 lift. Free mountain tours depart daily and are open to intermediates and experts.

Dedicate a day to skiing at the neighbouring Deer Valley - only 15 mins away by road and where complimentary ski tours are offered by mountain hosts. The ski area can actually be viewed over the dividing fence from the Park City ski area, but is under separate ownership (please note that snowboarding is banned here). The resorts of Alta and Snowbird are also enticingly close within an hours drive. Advanced and expert skiers can join a guide and ski a mix of resort and backcountry areas through 6 resorts in one day, including Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort, Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird
