Kick off the cruise theme with a tour of Copenhagen via its historic canals. Visiting the old harbour at Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle and the famous statue of the Little Mermaid. Alternatively stick to dry land by heading to the village of Fredensborg.

The first port of call is Gdansk where the medieval quarter is the place to see, featuring the Golden Gate, the 15th century Artus Court and Oliwa Cathedral with its three pipe organs. Next it’s either onto Solidarity Monument Square and the historic shipyard, or jump into a vehicle and drive to the 13th century Malbork Castle.

A former Soviet port, Liepaja is in the middle of a resurgence. Tour through the past of the Karosta district in a military prison built by the czars before an uplifting visit to the city centre. Discovering the art nouveau buildings, Peter’s Market and two beautiful cathedrals – the Holy Trinity and the lovingly restored St. Nicholas Orthodox Naval Cathedral.

A best kept secret for locals, Saarema Island is just being put on the map for visitors, with the capital city of Kuressaare coming through with a fairytale castle and buildings in shades of pastel. Nature lovers are satisfied in Viidumäe Nature Reserve and Vilsandi National Park which are home to orchids and thousands of birds. While Angla village shows off its pretty windmills and the Sõrve Lighthouse stands at the tip of the island’s south.

Wander the medieval town of Tallinn and discover its guild houses, churches and squares – taking time to seek out the famous apothecary shop and town hall. Other places to visit include some pretty parks, Baroque palaces and the ruins of a 15th century convent.

The trendy city of Helsinki is full of modern architecture, split up by its lush parks and open-air market. Take to the water again and cruise from the harbour past forests, beaches and the ruins of Suomenlinna fortress that stretches across five islands. Or head further inland to the country’s second oldest city – Porvoo.

The only city in the archipelago of Åland, Mariehamn is proud of its independent charm and maritime heritage. Stroll the historic streets and savour a cream and jam topped Åland pancake, get blood pumping on a hike or experience the local sea-faring ways on a boat trip.

Today is spent exploring the city, taking in its Old Town, medieval Gamla Stan and the royal palace. Later, take a detour by the water to see the impressively restored 17th century warship – Vasa – that sank on her maiden voyage before she even left the harbour.

Take some time to yourself to experience the onboard amenities including the spa and the putting green.

Drive inland to Germany’s bustling and complex capital, spotting landmarks like the Brandenberg Gate, Charlottenburg Palace and the Berlin Wall. Alternatively stay by the water and visit Warnemünde with its gothic church, market square and seaside promenade.

On another day at sea, expand your mind at a guest lecture and savour the local flavours on a wine tasting.

An Amsterdam classic, take a leisurely ride along the canals before visiting some museums, including that of Anne Frank. For escapades further inland, head to see the famous windmills and examine the precious porcelain in Delft.

Finish off the journey with some sightseeing in London. Spot sights like the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Piccadilly from the sky on the London Eye. Before wandering to them at ground level visiting Lower Regent Street and the British Museum along the way.
