USA National Parks: Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, California

  • A view of the Grand Teton mountains in the morning as the mountains catch some alpen glow and the Snake River shimmers

Step outside of the USA’s vibrant cities and you’ll find some of nature’s finest creations sequestered away in the embrace of its many National Parks.

The elements went wild when it came to the national parks in America, with cunningly crafted canyons, glamorous geysers, and oodles of animals at every turn. Freeing and thrilling in equal amounts, Arizona’s wide-open desert landscapes and spellbinding sunsets do breathtaking moments at their best; with ‘it girl’ the Grand Canyon leading the way for its iconic scenery. Whereas a timely hop through Monument Valley to Utah brings a miscellany of Old West traditions and a sanctuary for stargazing in hues of rust and rose.

In cool contrast, Wyoming and Montana play host to greener grasslands and rugged terrains, setting the stage for a grand finale that can only be a success with Yellowstone’s supervolcano superstar. While we’d have it on record that even California shouldn’t be complete without experiencing it’s softer-side, with Yosemite bringing the rare chance to retreat away from the hubbub of its coast.

In pursuit of…

A mountain valley and river with the sun shining
… expanding horizons

There isn’t a national park that couldn’t heighten every emotion. Each catering to the needs of its visitors in a range of ways, the escape from the day-to-day mania just the start of the fun. The Grand Canyon opens the mind’s eye to new potential and birds-eye-view helicopter explorations; while the snuggly safety of Yosemite is great for the days when time stands still. In Zion, everything feels even more up-close and personal with its intimate offering of adrenaline-filled activities, while Yellowstone makes for a ground-breaking experiment of seriously cool curiosity, tackled with both brains (how do those geysers cook a whole meal?) and brawn of rafting among it all.

A sense of place

Get to know some of our favourite national parks in America, from the all-encompassing vistas of the Grand Canyon to the inner-naturalists Valhalla that is Yellowstone.

  • Grey asphalt road under a cloudy sky
    Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Not even the future of technology can level up to the reality of seeing this spectacle in person. A seventh wonder of the natural world, its expansive serenity is easy to slip into; until you stand at the top of its three different rims where the likes of a glass skywalk, rafting, and helicopter tours await as the paint palette of colours brush the rocks with their ever-changing hues.

  • A woman looking out towards a brown mountain range
    Zion National Park, Utah

Somewhat of a cousin to the Grand Canyon (and just a five hour drive away) the up-close canyon experience of Zion creates a cosy feeling. Starting down in the ridges (controversial yet affective) there are so many activities to get right into the action, it’s no wonder people spend days actively getting lost in it. With world-class climbing, canyoning and mountain biking all setting the wheels in motion; Zion invites all attempts to feel at one with the uncontrollable.

  • Two brown deers eating from long grass with a large stone mountain behind
    Yosemite National Park, California

Standing at its Glacier Point overlook, it’s easy to see why Yosemite’s dramatic valley inspires a black bear-like hibernation from the outside hubbub. With its famed granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome engulfing on both sides, time gets tucked away to return to the little things in life. Days spent getting to know the sights and species might be action-packed, but the feeling of it all is deliciously slow and sleepy.

  • A large bison crossing an empty road with trees on snow capped hills in the background
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming & Montana

Bubbling below this supervolcano is half of the world’s hydrothermal features, studded on the surface with geysers so smart they can cook a family meal and so exciting to stand beside you’d be asking to do the chores afterwards. With a history dating back 11,000 years, there are stories here that raise so many questions, it was the first area to be deemed a USA national park in an effort to find the answers.
