Turks & Caicos

  • A woman stands on a sandy beach near two sun loungers

There’s an exclusive air about these off-the-radar islands; maybe it’s the quiet, unspoilt cays where gleaming white yachts drift at anchor, or, maybe it’s the in-crowd preferring to keep its beauty to a select few.

Hollywood high flyers would flock here for its remote location, but it’s not hard to see why they would be charmed to return. Depending on preference, there are different areas for different vibes. Jump into the upbeat ambience of Providenciales that welcomes with its beach bars, cool cafes and powdery sand that stretches for miles; cast off for Middle Caicos to explore the dramatic limestone caves at Conch Bar and kayak the labyrinth of mangrove channels that thread the islands; or just hole up on a private island where forget-the-world seclusion is key.

But whatever the choice, it will sharpen appetites for Grace Bay’s Thursday night fish fry that rivals those on Barbados not only in flavour but in local spirit too.

… a submarine sensation

Being surrounded by a big blue playground means water-faring fun is inevitable, but it’s beneath the glassy surface where the beauty truly takes hold. Dangling on the edge of a submerged limestone plateau, the underwater world is a diverse ecosystem of kaleidoscopic brilliance. Stingrays, sharks, turtles and dolphins all feature on the playbill, with stages in the north edges being more rugged and grooved in nature, whereas the south sees the ocean floor plumet into vertical walls teeming with marine life.
