Summer the Swiss Alps with the Glacier Express

Zermatt – Andermatt – St Moritz

Summer in the Swiss Alps
with the Glacier Express

When it comes to panoramic scenery, Switzerland excels. The country has it all: soaring summits, dramatically-chiselled glaciers and glittering lakes. Travelling by train in this part of the world is as enthralling as it gets, especially if you happen to hop aboard the legendary Glacier Express.

This is no ordinary train journey. It offers the rare opportunity to combine one of the most spectacular rail routes with stays at three iconic Swiss resorts. Every moment is a photo-opportunity travelling between Zermatt and St Moritz passing through Andermatt; gracefully gliding over 291 magnificent bridges and traversing through 91 tunnels before ascending to the Oberalp Pass, the highest point on the scenic route. All while indulging in decadent local fare, accompanied by regional wines, as you are swept through the idyllic mountains, valleys and villages.

The slow-paced mountain village is located at a crossing point between high mountain passes, used as a resting place by travellers for centuries. Beyond traditional hiking and mountain biking to take in its untamed beauty, you’ll find leisurely pursuits such as golfing and fishing here.

    • Open all seasons

Despite its cool name, the Glacier Express runs all year long and each season has its own charm. In spring, the Alpine meadows come alive with wildflowers, while crystal-clear lakes and vibrant villages entice in the summer. The view in Autumn transforms into a tapestry of deep reds, rich oranges and golden yellows, while winter brings with it a wonderland backdrop of snow-capped peaks and glaciers.

    • Unmissable highlights

The Glacier Express runs through the Rhine Gorge, also known as the “Swiss Grand Canyon”, one of Switzerland’s most impressive natural spectacles; the Albula Line wows with architectural masterpieces the Solis and Landwasser viaducts and spiral tunnels; while at a soaring 2,033-metres above sea-level, the views of sweeping meadows, glacial lakes, and majestic peaks from the Oberalp Pass are unrivalled.
