A verdant oasis amidst the sandy plains and craggy hills of Rajasthan in northern India, Amanbagh means ‘peaceful garden’.
Six Senses Fort Barwara
Six Senses Fort Barwara
Keeping one foot in its Rajasthani past, this lovingly restored palatial refuge takes rejuvenation seriously, both inside its 700-year-old walls and beyond.
Keeping one foot in its Rajasthani past, this lovingly restored palatial refuge takes rejuvenation seriously, both inside its 700-year-old walls and beyond.
After nearly a decade of Six Senses’ tender love and care converted this 14th-century fort into their second Indian outpost, ‘a new lease of life’ has easily become the mantra for all goings on here. The region’s history is dusted off and celebrated in the suites, the small number of which makes the complex feel even more expansive than it already is. A feat not easy to pull off when there are already two palaces and two temples hidden within the scalloped turrets. It’s one of these temples that houses the spa, a space that echoes the property’s ethos of renewal in its offerings. The treatments and practices aim to boost both mind and body using an energising signature product range – the ingredients for which are sourced from the garden’s endemic plants.
Beyond the sturdy ramparts, Ranthambore National Park is a mere 30 minutes away. It makes sense, then, that Fort Barwara has attuned its senses to the surrounding wildlife. Tigers practically prowl on the fort’s doorstep. In-the-know naturalists lead the way on game drives that aid a country-wide initiative to protect the national animal. And — staying true to the brand’s values — the hotel is also involved with the local community, helping to rewild the nearby forests and bring the sacred lake back to its divine glory.
